Buyer's Guide

How to purchase a horse privately through RBA.

If you have never purchased a listing from our website or purchased a horse privately, here is a brief synopsis of how it works.

View our current list of fillies & mares for sale

If you find a horse which looks interesting and you would like to see it's pedigree, click on the "View pedigree page" link.

If you can see a photo of the horse, click on the "View images" link located just under the photo. If no photos are published, we are usually endeavouring to obtain them. If the horse is located on RBA's farm, we will also be able to provide a link from our web site to video footage of the horse.

If a photo is published, we may also have additional photos of the horse on file. In most instances physical descriptions can also be provided. Please click on the link "Request More Info" if you would like this extra information.

If you are interested in making an offer for any horse, please submit your offer via email, fax or phone and we will pass it on to the vendor and in turn come back to you with their response. Any offer you submit can be conditional upon things such as vet examinations for racing and/or breeding soundness or your own personal inspection.

Once a price has been agreed to by the vendor, a buy/sell agreement is signed by each party. If the sale is subject to any conditions, eg, any inspections, both parties will use their best endeavours make certain these take place as soon as possible.

If the horse passes all vet checks and inspections, payment is usually required within 7 days, unless otherwise agreed. Your payment is deposited into RBA's trust account. Once funds arrive into our trust account, ownership and risk transfers to the buyer.

RBA can then arrange transport, insurance if required, plus we are happy to recommend a suitable farm or trainer for your new purchase. The horse's documentation is then usually posted to the new farm where the broodmare will board, or their new trainer in the case of a racehorse.

You might even like RBA to play an ongoing management role with your new purchase. To find out more how this might work for you click here.
