SELLS WITH 2008 COMMANDS COLT |
NSW |
Asking price reduced from $350,000+GST to $325,000+GST - 5th September
STOP PRESS: 23rd September - LOVE AND EMOTION has foaled a bay colt by COMMANDS.
Not only is LOVE AND EMOTION is from one of Australia's best female lines, she is also arguably the best value mare on the market at present. To illustrate this, when you click on "View Pedigree", we have also attached a pedigree for LOVE AND EMOTION'S half sister BRILLIANT CROWN, as it would have looked in May 2002, when she sold at the Inglis Easter Broodmare Sale for $260,000. Relative to that sale price, in our opinion, LOVE AND EMOTION should be valued at a minimum of $750,000 to $800,000 in today's market. Since May 2002, the following has occurred:
- The average price of broodmares in Australia has risen nearly 250%.
- Their half brother SHOT OF THUNDER went to win at Group 1 level.
- Close relations LACHLAN RIVER, FRENCH BID and LADY NATASHA have appeared, embellishing the family with wins at Group 1, Group 2 and Listed level respectively.
- WOODMAN versus CHIEF'S CROWN as Broodmare Sires. CHIEF'S CROWN at the time was still to prove himself as a sire of broodmares, however, at present we know WOODMAN is a world class broodmare sire, his daughter's already producing over 100 SW's including the likes of MISS FINLAND and MORE THAN READY.
Other comparisons between LOVE AND EMOTION and BRILLIANT CROWN are:
- BRILLIANT CROWN had produced one foal, a filly by THUNDER GULCH. LOVE AND EMOTION has produced one foal - a 2007 filly by EXCEED AND EXCEL.
- On face value, BRILLIANT CROWN appears to have been a better racehorse than LOVE AND EMOTION, as she was placed in Melbourne (4 starts) versus LOVE AND EMOTION being unplaced (3 starts). On speaking to LOVE AND EMOTION'S trainer, the mare DID have ability, however, her owner decided not to pursue a race career due to the mare's high breeding value.
- BRILLIANT CROWN was in foal to a $30,000 fee stallion in 2002 (END SWEEP) where as LOVE AND EMOTION is in foal to a $60,000 fee stallion (COMMANDS).
- Perhaps most importantly, having seen both mares, I would describe them as well above average types, with a slight leaning to LOVE AND EMOTION.
Summary for LOVE AND EMOTION:
- By a high class broodmare sire WOODMAN.
- She has no DANZIG in her bloodline, which is a major plus.
- Her dam MY BRILLIANT STAR won the Group 1 AJC Oaks
- Half sister to two SW'S to date incl. Group 1 MRC Toorak Hcp winner SHOT OF THUNDER.
- Closely related to Group 1 winners SUDURKA and LACHLAN RIVER.
- Has close relations at stud being mated to top stallions such as ZABEEL, RED RANSOM, ANABAA, STRATUM, etc. So you would expect the family to only improve.
- Carrying to one of Australia's top young sires in COMMANDS, due to foal in September.
- She is a good type.
- She is extremely well priced.
Our vendor is a motivated seller. LOVE AND EMOTION is presently located in the Hunter Valley and available for inspection by appointment.
P.S. We forgot to mention earlier, the breeder who purchased BRILLIANT CROWN for $260,000 in 2002, sold over $1.3 million worth of yearlings from her next five foals. |

A major contributing factor to wastage in the thoroughbred industry is poor stallion selection by the broodmare owner. Each year, thousands of mares are poorly mated. Mares will visit stallions which are incompatible in areas such as soundness and physique, pedigree, aptitude, temperament, etc. Also, many mare owners are guilty of "overmating" their mares, ie, putting too big a service fee into the mare in the hope that they will hit the jackpot in the sales ring. It's a bit like playing Russian Roulette with 5 bullets in the chamber! Brett Howard thinks he can improve your chances of success by prudent stallion selection.
You are not charged for accepting our advice. Using a bloodstock agent to help you with your stallion selection and booking is like using a travel agent to help you choose and book your travel. Travel agents are paid commissions by airline, hotel, car rental, etc, companies when they make a booking. When a bloodstock agent makes a booking to a stallion, the stud farm pays the agent a commission once the mare is tested in foal and the service fee has been paid.
The advice offered is independent. As we are doing a large number of bookings each year, we have our finger on the pulse of which stallions are fully booked, close to being booked, or what great deals are available in the market place. We also take positions in stallions which we like, hence, hopefully being able to secure the stallion nominations at a more favourable price for our clients. To discuss how we can help you this season, please call Brett Howard on 02 4998 6488. |
