Past Successes
Following is a sample of some of the horses sold and purchased through RBA prior to their successes.
Further evidence to suggest that it pays to deal with RBA.
BELUS – purchased out of the paddock as a yearling for $10,000. Subsequent dual G3 winner of over $450,000.
BLAYNEY BREEZE – sold privately to Queensland breeder Mick Atkins for $11,000, carrying to ROYAL ACADEMY. The foal she was carrying at the time, was subsequently sold for $35,000 as a yearling and raced as RECAPITALIZE, a 3 time Melbourne stakes winner of over $540,000 to date.
BLUEBIRD THE WORD – purchased out of the paddock as a weanling, sold the following year for NZ$100,000 as a yearling. He went on to win the 2000 Group 1 Waikato International Stakes, 2000 Group 2 Waikato Gold Cup and was placed in the Group 1 New Zealand Derby, Group 1 WRC Thorndon Mile, Group 1 Queensland Derby, Group 1 Waikato International Stakes.
CENTALONG – sold to Hong Kong as a lightly raced 2yo. Renammed SUPER FIT in HK, he won the 1994 Hong Kong Derby – HK G1.
CHANGE OF CONTROL - sold privately to Jonel Park Thoroughbreds, Allora, Queensland for $25,000 in 2003. Her first foal is boom Macau 3yo GOOD CONTROL (by FASLIYEV), winner of the 2009 Group 3 Lisboa Prelude (1200m) at Taipa, and now undefeated in 7 starts to date.
DANINKLING – sold privately to clients of Adelaide trainer Mark Minervini for $35,000 in 1999. Already a Melbourne winner, she was to go on and win another $100,000+ for her new owners and place in Group 2 SAJC Swettenham Stud stakes. At the completion of her racing career, she was sold for close to $200,000. Her yearlings have sold for $300,000 & $320,000.
DARK KSAR – sold to Hong Kong clients, William, Raymond and Phillip Tai for $27,500, as a lightly raced 2yo maiden. DARK KSAR went on to win 13 races including the Group 1 STC Ranvet Stakes and over $1 million in prizemoney.
DIRECTE ATTAQUE – sold privately as a maiden mare to Stone Lodge Farm. Subsequently produced Group 2 winner of over $440,000 OUR SWEET MOSS.
ESTER KELLY – sold privately to Arrowfield Stud off the track. She has subsequently produced dual 2006 Listed Race winner HASTA LA CIAO CIAO.
FAT CHANCE – purchased at auction for $25,000 as a yearling. Subsequently sold to HK interests where he has earned nearly HK$2 million.
FIRETAINE – purchased unraced for $5,000 at a Mixed Inglis Sale. Subsequent Adelaide G3 winner of over $200,000.
FOIL – purchased privately for clients in mid-2007. Subsequently produced 2008 Sydney Group 2 winner BELONG TO MANY.
FOREST MINT – assisted in the purchase of this mare for Lex Tall at the 1993 Keeneland November Sale. Imported into Australia, her first Australian bred foal was South Australian Derby (G1) winner BLUE MURDER.
GABBING GLORIA – assisted in the purchase of this mare for Victorian breeder Alan Richards at 1993 US Keeneland November Sale. Imported into Australia where her first Australian bred foal was dual G1 winner DIATRIBE.
GOOD NEWS – purchased off the track in 1993 for $10,000. Susequently produced 2000 Group 1 VRC Derby winner HIT THE ROOF.
HAYDEN CLAN – sold privately in 1999 to John Crowley, carrying to JOHAN QUATZ. Her then 4yo, NEVER BLUE, a winner of 1 race at the time, was to go on and win another 10 races including the 2001 WATC CB Cox Stakes (G2).
HIGH SPIRITS – purchased as a yearling for NZ$35,000 at auction. Won over HK$3 million.
LOADED LADY – sold privately to Paul & Lyn Maguire, Mackay, Queensland, for $32,000 (in foal to COMMANDS). The foal she was carrying at the time was sold for $50,000 as yearling. Subsequently named LOADED COMMAND, this now 6yo mare is a 2008 Listed Race winner in New Zealand.
METAL STORM – purchased out of training in France for Gray & Jan Williamson. Standing at their Mungrup Stud in Western Australia, he went on to become WA’s Champion Sire, prior to his premature death.
MONET’S COVE – purchased out of the paddock as a yearling for $33,000. Subsequent G2 winner of over $400,000.
MY FIRST STAR - sold privately to Graeme Little and Emma Boling, prior to her 3yo filly ISCA winning the 1999 VATC Lightning S - G1 and 1999 VRC Newmarket H - G1.
NANCY ELEANOR - sold privately to Carl Holt, CJN Bloodstock, Sydney. NANCY ELEANOR'S second foal is PHELAN READY, winner of the 2009 STC Golden Slipper Stakes - G1 and the 2009 GTC Magic Millions 2yo Classic.
NOBLE SPIRITS – purchased privately for NZ$45,000 as a tried horse for Singapore owner Bob Goh. Subsequently raced as NOBLE SPIRITS where he won the 1994 Singapore Derby plus another 5 races, and was named Singapore/Malaysian Horse of the Year in 1994.
PHEROZ FANTASY – sold privately to Gavin Murphy and Catherine Donovan in 1998, carrying to LAST TYCOON. Her then 2yo ZABEEL colt, named SUPER IMPRESSIVE was to go on and become a multiple Group winner of almost $800,000, plus the LAST TYCOON foal she produced in 1998, raced as UNROCEL SAINT, a Listed Race winner in Adelaide.
PRINCESA – purchased for a then Australian record weanling price of $400,000. Retained and raced by Andrew Pennefather and won at Listed Race level on two occasions.
PURLING - dam of 2002 Flight S - G1 winner ROYAL PURLER. Mare sold privately in 2000 for $3,000 empty.
RHIANNA LOUISE - purchased by RBA for Ross Warnock. Flame Tree Stud, Scone, at the 2007 MM National Broodmare Sale for $100,000. Subsequently produced 2008 Group 3 winner PEPPERWOOD.
ROAD TO SKYE – purchased privately for $30,000 as a maiden mare for West Australian breeder James Miorada. Subsequently produced WA stakeswinner of over $160,000 TANTRA DANCER.
ROYAL ACCORD – purchased at auction for Gavin Murphy and Catherine Donovan. Subsequently produced South African stakes winner MERMAID’S FLANNEL.
SAPPHIRE FLASH – purchased at auction for Patinack Farm for $40,000 at the 2008 Inglis Easter Broodmare Sale. Subsequently produced 2008 SAJC Dermody Stakes (Listed Race) winner MORGAN DOLLAR.
SO LIKE LAE – sold privately in 1997 for $14,000 to DM Sharpe Equine. Her then 2yo ZABEEL filly named LAEBEEL, was to go on and win at Listed Race level in Melbourne and place a close second in the 1999 Group 1 Caulfield Cup.
SOUL SEARCHING – purchased at auction for $40,000 in 1998 carrying to DEHERE. Within 12 months, her daughter PERMAI won at Listed Race level in Adelaide. The DEHERE she was carrying was subsequently sold for $130,000 as a yearling and the mare sold for $90,000 in foal to KING OF KINGS in 1999.
SOUTHERN SPRINTER – purchased at auction for $16,000, carrying to COMMANDS. Within 12 months, her 2yo FRAGMENTATION won at Listed Race level in Melbourne.
SOVERINA – sold privately to Peter Taylor (Mulbring Creek Farm) and Richard Pegum. The third foal bred from this mare by Peter and Richard is 2009 Listed Race winner MR CLANGTASTIC (Wyong Cup).
STATION MISTRESS – stakes winning mare, sold to Jim and James Ryan for $13,000 at the completion of her race career. Subsequently produced multiple stakes winner PLAY STATION, a winner of 9 races over $450,000 for the Ryans.
STRAUSSBROOK – Group 1 winner sold privately to Mapperley Stud as a stallion prospect at the end of his racing career. Leading First Crop Sire in NZ in 1995/96.
SUMMERETO – sold privately to Milennium Thoroughbreds for $18,500 in 1999, carrying to KINGSTON RULE. Her next foal, by CATBIRD, was to sell for $145,000 as a yearling and raced as ROADAGAIN, a stakes winner of nearly $300,000 to date.
TESSUTI – purchased privately as a foal in NZ to pinhook. Later resold at auction as a yearling for double it’s weanling price, and went on to win at Group 3 level in Melbourne as a 2yo.
THE SKY MOVED – sold privately in 2006 out of NZ, to Queensland breeder Greg Rosbrook. THE SKY MOVED'S first foal, COLOURLAND SUPREME (2004 g by AL AKBAR) won the 2009 RM$1 million (A$352,000) Group 1 Piala Emas Sultan Selangor (2000m) at Selangor on the 14th June, his 8th win in 22 starts.
THEY SAY – sold privately as a maiden mare out of the USA, to Graeme Little and Emma Boling. THEY SAY’S 2nd foal was the 2002/03 Champion Australian 2yo HASNA (AJC Sires Produce S - G1, AJC Champagne S - G1). At the 2010 Gold Coast Magic Millions sale, the yearling colt by REDOUTE'S CHOICE x THEY SAY sold for $925,000.
TIDAL – purchased at auction for Alan Bray for $50,000 (in foal to RORY'S JESTER - resultant foal sold for $42,500). Subsquently produced $90,000 yearling and Stakes Winner PORTSMOUTH (by ROYAL ACADEMY).
UNROCEL SAINT – sold privately as a yearling for $70,000 to clients of Kevin Dagg Bloodstock. She went on the win at Listed Race level in Adelaide and was sold at auction for $425,000 in 2006, carrying her first foal, by ELUSIVE QUALITY.
VILLA RONDINI – sold off the track for $9,500. Subsequently produced Group 2 winner HONALEE, 6 wins and over $400,000 to date.
VIVEASHA - dam of 2005 Queensland Derby winner LACHLAN RIVER. Sold whilst carrying LACHLAN RIVER in 2001.
WESTERN CHORUS – purchased after son JEUNE KING PRAWN had won at Group 3 level in HK. He was to later win at Group 1 level in that season, plus the mare’s then filly foal by FLYING SPUR was to race as CREATIVE PLAN and win twice at Listed Race level.
WHAT FUN - Wayne & Pauline Alchin of Carramar Park, Grose Wold, NSW, purchased the mare WHAT FUN for $40,000 off the track through RBA. On the 3rd of May 2008, her 2yo CAT D'ANTIBES, a $140,000 yearling by TALE OF THE CAT, won the Listed Ken Russell Memorial Stakes, to remain undefeated after 2 starts.
YEATSINA – purchased at auction for $30,000 as a foundation mare for Queensland breeder Peter Dunbar. At the time, she had a BELLOTTO filly at foot. The BELLOTTO filly was later named SETO FLOWERIAN and won at G3 level in Sydney and was AJC Oaks placed. YEATSINA subsequently also produced stakeswinners PRESINA and THE GOLDEN DANE.
